This past week, Dr Andrea Haqq, Dr Jean Buteau, and Dr Andrew Pepper appeared on Global Morning News across the province to discuss their innovative diabetes research, which is partially funded by the Alberta Diabetes Foundation.
For over 30 years, the Alberta Diabetes Foundation has been funding innovative research that has made a difference for people living with diabetes. The first 12 years of investments were in clinical trials that led to the "Edmonton Protocol" - still an international standard of care for islet cell transplantation. Since then, we've turned our focus towards not just improving quality of life but curing diabetes for goo. That means no needles, no blood-sugar regulation, no insulin. We are close to making it a reality.
