EDMONTON, AB - A couple days ago, Dr. Patrick MacDonaldand his team at the Alberta Diabetes Institutestarted a donation drive for our front-line healthcare professionals that will deliver invaluable personal protective equipment (PPE). This is an effort to make sure our local healthcare professionals remain safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In just one day, the team was able to assemble a shipment of PPE that was delivered to the COVID-19 Public Health Response team at the University of Alberta Hospital. As true collaborators, this is yet another example shown of coming together for a common goal between the Alberta Diabetes Foundation, Alberta Diabetes Institute, and the University of Alberta community. Future deliveries of donations will be coordinated with Alberta Health Services.
If you, or your company, has any access or inventory of PPE items that include masks, face shields, examination gloves and gowns, please contact Alberta Health Services directly at ahscovidoffer@ahs.ca.
Further, the Province has now launched its “ Bits and Pieces Program ” for other donations and can be found at alberta.ca.
If you’re worried how you will manage your, or a loved one’s, diabetes during a pandemic, follow your health practitioner’s advice, and practice physical distancing where possible. Please read our previous post on COVID-19 and diabetes.
Please conduct the COVID-19 self-assessment if you feel ill:
